Magoutes Vieilles Vignes Blanc 2024 is a compelling white wine from Siatista, a high-altitude winegrowing region in northern Greece with roots tracing back to the 17th century. Crafted from 100% Xinomavro grown on rocky limestone and clay soils between 750 to 890 meters in elevation, this rare blanc de noir is a testament to the region’s heritage and resurgence. Diamantis Winery, under the direction of third-generation winemaker Dimitrios Diamantis and George Papageorgiou, brings new life to ancient vines through organic farming and low-intervention winemaking.
This wine opens with citrus blossom, green apple, and a fine thread of stone fruit, all wrapped around a distinct mineral backbone that recalls a young, razor-sharp Chablis. The palate is taut and lean, with a bright acidity that sharpens its natural purity and elegance. Spontaneously fermented and left unmanipulated, it’s a vegan, low-intervention wine that captures the tension and energy of its terroir. At 11.5% alcohol, it drinks with poise and restraint, making it perfect for warm afternoons or refined seafood pairings.
Magoutes Vieilles Vignes Blanc is best enjoyed chilled alongside delicate dishes like sashimi, pan-fried hake, or a goat cheese tartlet. Its subtle complexity and structure also allow it to age gracefully over the next several years. This bottle is more than a refreshing white—it’s a rare and expressive Greek alternative for those who gravitate toward mineral-driven French whites and value authenticity in the glass.
